Loving Lambrusco with Julia Prestia, Venturini Baldini

Every time I think I’m beginning to getting below the surface of all that Emilia Romagna has to offer, I am di nuovo surprise and enthralled by an unexpected twist on something I thought I knew. Ah, the perils of being a know-it-all. There is something about lambrusco, that bubbly red wine whose reputation as laissez-faire fizzy vino has left many shrugging their shoulders and asking “is that all there is?” There is so much more, and quietly, traditional lambrusco has made a come back and become one of my favorite easy-going wines. Lambrusco, a dry Italian wine from Emilia Romagna may have taken a back seat in years past, but the resurgence of traditional Lambrusco di Sorbara, among others, has kicked it up a notch. Eric Asimov wrote it best “Lambrusco is a super value that goes great with food. In return, it demands very little except to be understood for what it is.”

Julia Prestia gets it. An Austrian transplant by way of London, Prestia and husband Giuseppe decided to set out on an adventure putting them center stage in the Lambrusco renaissance with their delicious wine estate Venturini Baldini, with a focus on heritage and tradition, mixed with a 21st century nod to sustainability and bio ethos . Cin cin!

“Venturini Baldini is a perfect organic ecosystem that we try to keep as little touched as possible.”
