Sicily on Your Skin
Something as simple as an almond can inspire a revolution, I was once told by a friend from Palermo while we were drinking granita di mandorla (crushed, frozen almond milk) and coffee in Monreale on a hot July afternoon. Sicily is an incredible island. The largest in the Mediterranean at 25,711 km², and probably the most diverse in terrain- mountains, sea, hill towns, beaches, and a millennia of art, culture, history, monuments and innovation.
Irene Forte, daughter of Sir Rocco Forte of Rocco Forte Hotel Group, is launching a revolution with her Irene Forte Skin Care. Sourcing almost all of her ingredients from Sicily, Irene has created a skin care line – or what she calls “The Mediterranean Diet for Your Skin” – based on the sapori di Sicilia (flavors of Sicily), and free rom parabens, allergens, paraffin, colourants, and sulfates (with the help a team of dermatologists and biologists).
A revolution from an almond. An army of oranges. An empire of tomatoes. The list goes on and on. You cannot visit Sicily without falling in love with its colors, scents and tastes. And that is exactly what happened to Irene Forte.
Irene Forte sources almost all her ingredients from the organic farm at Verdura Resort, Sicily. Photos: Irene Forte.
